FAQs

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT MY FIRST POLE CLASS?

First of all, welcome! We're so excited to have you! Even seasoned pole dancers remember the nervous jitters of being a beginner. Don't worry, your pole sisters and brothers will make you feel right at home. When you first arrive, you'll put your items in a cubby, grab a mat, and find a spot. We'll do introductions and begin with a 15-20 minute stretch and conditioning warm-up. Your first class will be filled with beginners who are excited and nervous, just like you. Our favorite thing about first pole classes is that students always surprise themselves!

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO POLE CLASS?

Wear whatever you feel the most comfortable in! This can be shorts, sports bras, tank tops, bathing suit sets, or anything from the addicting genre that is pole wear! Exposed skin helps you grip the pole, but for your first class you will stay mostly on the ground. You may appreciate socks and/or kneepads for when we’re getting down on the floor!

DO I HAVE TO WEAR HEELS TO POLE DANCE?

Heels are an exciting part of pole but they are definitely not required! Many students dance without heels. The floors at PŌL are so smooth you can glide over them barefoot, in socks, or in leg warmers. Many students start their pole journey without heels then try them out later on only to fall in love with them. They can be a ton of fun and a completely different challenge for dancing!

DO I NEED TO HAVE DANCE EXPERIENCE OR STRENGTH TRAINING TO START POLE DANCING?

Not at all! You don't need any previous experience and you don't have to be strong or flexible to begin pole. You might be surprised to hear that most people who start pole dancing have no previous dance experience. PŌL classes are accessible for all fitness levels & all body shapes and sizes!

WHAT IF I'M NOT STRONG ENOUGH?

You don't have to be strong already to start pole. The great thing about pole is that it makes you strong! At PŌL we incorporate conditioning for every level and ability in every single class. You get a full-body workout that makes you stronger while you're learning and having fun!

WHAT IF I'M NOT FLEXIBLE AT ALL?

Just like you don't have to be strong to start pole, you don't have to be flexible either. Just ask your fellow pole dancers and you'll find out most weren't flexible before they started, either. Flexibility is just another part of the journey and we'll work on it together in class. Everything you learn will come with variations for your own level of flexibility.

IS PŌL FOR MEN TOO?

Absolutely. We welcome everyone at PŌL!
